Start by chosing a video to follow. While you might want to just watch the videos at first,  I pace the videos so that you can work along with me in your Bible.  Grab some colored pencils and a Bible, and follow along  as I

Do It Yourself

"Storage Locker for Questions"

Your questions matter.  They matter a lot. I find it helps me to put my questions in a "Storage Locker."  I've been doing that for a few years now. You may use the margins in your Bible, or you may want to use a separate notebook as your "Storage Locker."   (See below. More coming soon.)

Bible Translations

"Why use 'blue' for God?"

Bible Translations

I use the English Standard Version (ESV) for most of my videos, but sometimes you will see me use New King James, New American Standard, and other translations.  See my upcoming Blog posts for a brief explaination.

Bible Formats

Bible Translations

I usually use a 'single-column journaling Bible' for Foundational  because I like the wide margins for notes and questions, but you name it, I have used it.  You might prefer to begin with an inexpensive Bible  so that you do not feel conflicted about marking up a more expensive Bible.  What matters most is that you start!  Watch this site and Foundational's Patreon site for future postings about the many resources available in the world of Bible texts.

"What if I have questions?"

Really, a common question I get is, "does it matter what colors I use to highlight certain words?" In short: Yes. It is definitely helpful to start off with one color scheme, which will help you follow along.  There are many benefits to using this set of colors and symbols, which will be an ongoing topic on this site. There is nothing 'spiritual' about the choice of colors, but there are practical advantages.  In time you can personalize it if you want.

"What if I have questions?"

Excellent.  We all have questions, and my heart's goal is that people who let me walk along side of them feel free to ask any and all questions.  Not only does Foundational have a practical and unique method of processing questions, but you may contact me through this website, and you can gain even more access to  me through Foundational's "Patreon" website.

Yes! It is in the works.  Foundational : For Churches, Getting Ready To Hear The Word provides materials to help prepare people for the upcoming sermon, without requiring a huge time committement. Foundational's focus on "what does the text say," developes good hermaneutical habits naturally.   Foundational for Small Groups, and Foundational Retreats are coming.  Please let me know if you are interested in hearing more.
